Concept
Delfie is a cultural and historical website focused on the Dutch city of Delft. It combines digital storytelling with physical engagement to promote Delft’s heritage.
The project includes integrating physical touchpoints around Delft to attract both locals and tourists to the Delfie website. These touchpoints would be signs, window stickers, or other suitable markers placed at culturally or historically significant locations. Each marker would feature:
- A brief introductory story or call to action that entices passersby to engage.
- A QR code that directs the user to a tailored section on the Delfie website.
- The linked website section provides in-depth information specifically about the location or item where the QR code was scanned.
Example locations are iconic and historically rich, such as:
- The exact spot where Johannes Vermeer painted his famous “View on Delft.”
- The Prinsenhof in Delft, connected to the assassination of King Willem van Oranje.
This approach effectively connects physical cultural landmarks with digital content, creating an interactive experience that promotes engagement with the Delfie website.
#Delfie will encourage visitors to take a “#Delfie”—a photo of themselves at cultural or historically significant locations in Delft—and share it on their social media platforms tagged with #Delfie. This feature aims to:
- Promote user engagement and interaction with both the physical locations and the website.
- Generate organic social media exposure and community involvement around the Delfie project.
- Create a sense of shared experience and local pride among visitors and residents.
This social engagement strategy complements the QR code markers by encouraging ongoing interaction beyond just visiting the website, boosting visibility and potentially attracting more visitors to the project.
Website Features
- Website with interesting cultural and historical facts about Delft.
- A “host” character, illustrated differently per section to creatively embody the topic, such as the Milkmaid in the Vermeer section or a potter in the Delft pottery section.
- Interactive sections tied to specific historical or cultural themes and locations.
Physical Engagement
- Signs, window stickers, or other markers placed at culturally significant locations in Delft.
- Each marker includes a brief story or call to action and a QR code linking directly to the relevant section of the Delfie website.
- On the website you will find the next nearest spot to discover.
- Example locations: the place where Vermeer painted “View on Delft” and the Prinsenhof where King Willem van Oranje was assassinated.
Social Engagement
- Visitors are encouraged to take a “#Delfie” photo at these locations and share it on social media with the hashtag #Delfie.
- This promotes user interaction, community building, and organic exposure for the project.
